Description

The survey represents a continuous effort of the University in seeking periodic feedback from employers to inform the enhancement of its UG education, especially in preparing its UG graduates for the workplace. A new questionnaire was put up in 2016. In its development, consultation was made with relevant stakeholders which included representatives of Schools/IPO and support units. Efforts were also made to review relevant research literature, in particular local studies (e.g. the Employer Feedback Survey by the government, 2006; the interview study with employers by the former Center for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) of HKUST in 2009). The finalized questionnaire was thus distributed online in the period of December 2016 to April 2017 and covers the following areas:

  • Workplace competencies and attributes important for fresh graduates to be able to obtain an entry level position
  • Performance of HKUST fresh graduates in competencies and attributes perceived as important; and as compared with other local and overseas graduates that the employer respondents had worked with
  • Major consideration for hiring fresh graduates
  • Background information about the employer respondents and their organization

Relevant results were presented to senior management and disseminated to schools, departments and support units.
